Every week, The Boys’ Brigade engages over 50,000 youngsters aged 4 to 18 in over 1,400 local groups (called “BB Companies”) throughout the UK. These are not one off encounters but sustained, long term, relationship building experiences.
BB provides fun, adventure, opportunities and challenges for children and young people within a safe and structured environment.
Our volunteer leaders (over 12,000 across the UK) use balanced programmes and resources in relevant and creative ways, aiming to make a positive contribution to the lives of the youngsters in their care. You can read the BB’s Object here. Its Mission Statement entitled “Faith in Young People” not only emphasizes the object of the movement as one primarily concerned with mission and outreach, but also underlines our belief in young people.
Although we still have “boys” in our name, the individual church of which each BB Company is part can decide to welcome girls as members too.
Another part of the BB family called Amicus is for young people aged 14 to 25.
The “Battalion” is a group of local BB Companies. Its function is to provide training, support and encouragement to all Member Companies and to encourage more churches to open BB groups. Currently there are 9 Companies in our Battalion with over 300 boys and girls in membership.
The BB Companies in the Battalion support and encourage each other through things like joint events, competitions and joint activities – including a drum and bugle band, Duke of Edinburgh Award Expedition training and assessment, camps and holidays - which give the members wider opportunities to take part and help them to appreciate that they are part of a big BB family!
